Odoo's Newest eCommerce Tools: AI Chat, Cart Recovery, Click & Collect
If you're selling online, Odoo's last few releases are worth a second look. Cart recovery, click & collect, and AI-assisted live chat all moved from "needs a third-party app" to "built into the Website and Sales apps," with real usability details that go beyond the headline features.
Abandoned cart recovery, done carefully
Odoo 19 added native abandoned cart emails — but with a deliberate limitation worth knowing about before you flip the switch: enabling the feature only triggers recovery emails for carts created after activation, not for carts that were already sitting abandoned. It's a sensible default that avoids emailing people about months-old, possibly irrelevant carts, but it does mean there's no instant backlog of recovered revenue on day one.
Click & collect, with inventory that's actually current
Product pages now show a dedicated widget that separates stock availability for home delivery from stock available for Click & Collect, so shoppers aren't told an item is "in stock" only to find it's only available at a location across town. The mobile checkout experience also got an off-canvas cart summary, and Cash on Delivery can now be paired with any delivery method rather than a limited set.
- ✓Abandoned cart recovery emails, native to the Website app, scoped to carts created after activation
- ✓Per-location stock visibility separating delivery availability from Click & Collect
- ✓AI-connected live chat that can generate leads and hand off to a human when a conversation needs one
- ✓Mobile-optimized product comparison and an off-canvas mobile checkout cart summary
Live chat gets an AI layer
Odoo's livechat can now be connected to an AI agent capable of generating leads directly from a conversation, and store owners can review chats the chatbot couldn't forward, that were escalated, or that were abandoned before getting a response — useful for spotting where automated coverage is falling short. Progress bars have also been added to cart notifications, showing shoppers how close they are to unlocking a loyalty reward.
What to check before turning these on
Cart recovery and Click & Collect both depend on accurate underlying data — delivery methods, stock locations, and reward programs — being configured correctly first. It's worth testing the abandoned-cart email content and timing threshold on a staging site before enabling it in production, since the default settings won't necessarily match your typical purchase cycle.
